Meet Our Optometrists

Dr. Riaz Ahmed

Optometrist

Dr. Ahmed founded Mission Eye Care in 2005 with a vision to provide high quality eye care using the latest technology. He has over 25 years of experience in eye disease management and primary clinical eye care. He was awarded the Faculty of Science Gold Medal from the University of Alberta, and went on to graduate top of the class from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. He developed a passion for medical eye care during his Ocular Disease externship in Arizona, and subsequently returned to his native Alberta to practice medical optometry. After working with a local ophthalmologist for many years, he opened Mission Eye Care with the goal of continuing high quality eye care for all. His experience managing corneal disease fueled his passion to fit specialty contact lenses for those with keratoconus, corneal transplant, and ectasia from failed laser refractive surgery. He still manages these patients along with those with other eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes and Dry Eye Disease. Dr. Ahmed continues to consult in the eye care industry and is actively involved with the eye care training of medical students and family medicine residents from the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta. He is also an active volunteer with Canadian Vision Care, a charity which supplies eye care to developing nations worldwide. He has been on over 10 missions to countries such as Jamaica, Trinidad, Philippines, Kenya and more. Dr. Ahmed was also the former president of the Alberta Association of Optometrists, and currently serves as an advisory board committee member.
